Silent Hill: What to look forward for?

Today I found several more speculations about what with Silent Hill label on the cover is heading to over bookcases. I decided to make short overview.

Silent Hill Movie

No need to hassle. Directed by Christophe Gans with main character Harry changed to Rose. It's already nearly done, trailer out. World premiere set on 21th April, lots of other country release dates are announced. Official site. Chances are adamant, coming really soon, quality could be very good.

Silent Hill Movie 2

It's speculated, that studio is happy with Gans' work and current fan base reactions. Producer of last two games Akira Yamaoka (and composer of four... we all know it) also expressed his satisfaction with movie. Gans was interviewed about sequel and said he would do it. So it will depend on movie success. Chances are fair, movie was not too expensive, fan base is solid, DVD sales could be rather high. Could be done till the end of 2007. Quality similar to first movie.

Silent Hill Experience

Silent Hill thingy with missing exact generic name. Interactive UMD seems too vague, but let's stick with it. So Experience is interactive proprietary medium for PSP handheld which will hold cinematized version of known SH Dying Inside comics, some new SH comics, selection of 20 songs from Yamaoka's game soundtracks and some production info. Release date is "Spring 2006" and Konami hosts site. Chances are high, term nearing... and quality? Trailer looks good. But let's face it: UMD? They hope they start new product line, but it's dumb. It's like obscure region code DVD consisting only of bonuses, we all love to have them, not see them more then once if ever.

Silent Hill 5

First speculations are more than year and a half old from really early stage of development. They involved kind of mental institute patient story, but with no further info from Silent Team it can be long time left out. Bunch of other speculations discussed the gaming hardware. It was clearly stated from Konami it would be next generation console which led to new Playstation and new Xbox. Later widely popular hoax spread that it will be Nintendo's Revolution. Several weeks ago Playstation 3 was once again favourized. Chances are solid. Release date unsure, PS3 was delayed to Fall 2006 and could be worse. Expected quality is real high on technical part, rather high on story and feeling.

Silent Hill 1 Rerelease

Who would not long for it? New engine, same story, several small bonuses... maybe even same small side scenario? Pure fantasy, I don't believe this can happen. Lots of sources are citing Fangoria horror magazine interview with Christophe Gans (Fangoria interview scans) where is stated: Surprisingly, the Konami team didn't resist this alteration (speaking of Harry to Rose transformation), and in fact are planning to modify the original game with a female lead when they rerelease it in the near future.. Let's ignore the switch thing and concentrate on word rerelease. According to 1up gaming magazine Konami's public relation head addressed it as rumor. Chances: thin in short time, solid in long time, if gaming industry establish remakes equal to its sequel policy. Quality: hopefully high.
